Evanston Through the Eyes of an Artist:
Forty Years of Evanston Paintings by Walter Burt Adams
This retrospective exhibition by noted American painter
and well-known Evanston curmudgeon Walter Burt Adams
brings together twenty-four paintings from public and
private collections. Known for his realist cityscapes
depicting Evanston, Adams' vivid paintings, influenced by
the work of Edward Hopper, were exhibited twenty times
between 1930 and 1973 at the Art Institute of Chicago's
annual Artists of Chicago and Vicinity Exhibition.
On behalf of the Evanston Public Library and the
Evanston Historical Society, I wish to thank the generous
supporters who have made this exhibit possible, and I
hope you enjoy this exhibition of paintings by a truly
original artist who has left us an enduring artistic
record of Evanston in the mid 20th century.
