Phone Renewal

You can now renew books and other materials from the comfort of home with the Evanston Public Library Automated Renewal System, even if the Library is closed! The system can also tell you if you have any requested materials awaiting pickup. Just follow the easy steps listed below. Keep the phone number (847 590-8706) handy and you may never pay another Library fine again!

To renew materials using the Library's automated phone renewal system, you need three things:
  • your library card
  • your books or other materials
  • a touch tone phone.

To connect to the system dial 847 590-8706 on your touch tone phone. You will be welcomed to the automated renewal system and asked to enter your library card number (that's the number under the barcode) followed by a pound (#) sign.

After the system checks to make sure you've entered a real barcode number, it will ask you to enter the number 1 to renew items, or enter the number 2 to hear a list of items on hold, or reserve, waiting for you to pick them up.

If you press 1 to renew items, the system will ask you to enter the full barcode number of the item you wish to renew. Please enter the entire barcode number, including the 3119200 that begins the barcode number, followed by the pound (#) sign. The system will tell you if the renewal was successful, and give you the new due date for the item. Then it will repeat the menu choices.

Sometimes, material cannot be renewed. This happens if the item has already been renewed once, or when there is a waiting list for the material. The system will let you know if it cannot renew something for you.

The Evanston Public Library automated system is available from 6 a.m. until 11:55 p.m., seven days per week ( except for Saturday from 6 to 9 pm when the catalog is offline for system maintenance.)
