Interlibrary Loan
Although you can use your EPL card to check out most books, tapes, and discs at any North Suburban library, there are times when you might need an interlibrary loan. Our interlibrary loan service borrows library materials not found in our collection or the collections of another library in our consortium, and has them sent to EPL for you to check out.
Who may request an ILL?
EPL cardholders in good standing.
What can be requested?
Patrons may request books, audiovisual materials, or newspaper microfilm reels. Patrons are limited to 5 interlibrary loan requests in process at any time (meaning either on order or having been received and checked out.)
What can't be requested?
- Anything owned by an EPL branch or a CCS library, even if it's checked out.
- New items published within the past six months.
How do I request an ILL?
Fill out the online ILL form, or call (847) 448-8620.
How much does this cost?
A $1.00 fee will be charged for each item upon pickup. We make every effort to obtain materials for no additional fees. However, some libraries charge a lenders fee (costs may vary) and Evanston Public Library must pass on these fees to the requesting patron.
How long will it take?
Time frame for obtaining interlibrary loan items varies depending upon availability, shipping, and distance of the lending library.
How long can I keep an ILL book?
Loan periods are determined by the lending library. There are no renewals.
Other materials
Other materials such as census microfilms ($3.00 fee upon request) and magazine article photocopies ($1.00 fee) may be requested at Reference, telephone: (847) 448-8630, or just fill out an article request form online.
