Morrison, Toni. Home. 2012. (Fiction Morri.T)
More accessible than some of her earlier novels, Toni Morrison's Home is the story of Korean-war veteran Frank Money and his younger sister, Cee. Frank is suffering from severe PTSD in a time long before that was a recognized condition, and he's returned to a racist country that doesn't value his service and that fuels his rage and self-loathing. Cee's flight from their hometown of Lotus, Georgia, has also gone awry, and she's now near death. Only a desire to save Cee could bring Frank back to his despised hometown and force him to face the horrors of his past. Told in very spare prose with elements of magical realism, Home is an affecting story about responsibility and reconciliation. (Genevieve G.)
