21 Jump Street

title21 Jump Street. 2012. (DVD 791.4372 Twenty)

I was a bit too young to enjoy the original series of 21 Jump Street, but have heard that it was amazing in a cultish way.  Because of that I have no real way to compare the movie to the show, except to say that it is the same principal: young looking cops going to high school to solve crimes.  This movie is not destined to be a cult classic, but it is HILARIOUS!  It’s been awhile since a movie made me laugh out loud.  I have been disappointed by all the recent movies like Bridesmaids, Horrible Bosses, and anything along those lines.  Keep it sophomoric and I’m rolling around on the ground.  This movie is fun, filled with action that makes fun of itself, and pays tribute to its roots.  I find myself falling in love with Channing Tatum and the easy feel he exudes on screen the more and more I watch him.  Jonah Hill was great as an Eminem wannabe as well.  It was funny, and dumb, and I loved it, even if a tiny bit schmaltzy and predictable at times.  SPOILER ALERT: All the original characters make an appearance at one point or another.  (Kim - Reader's Services)
