Description: Connections for the Homeless works to prevent homelessness and provides housing, employment and supportive services to move individuals and families out of homelessness into permanent housing and stable lives.
Offers financial literacy classes.

Description: Not-for-profit coffee shop serving light breakfasts and lunches. Employees are at-risk Evanston youth, ages 15-22, who want to take steps towards a postive future and learn skills leading to employment in the food service field. Students are tutored in computer literacy, food history, job readiness techniques, GED subjects and more.
From 3pm. to 10 pm., Mon.-Sat., the space becomes Just 8 Pizzeria, serving artisan pizzas and gourmet cookies for dine in or delivery.
Living Room is large space adjoining the cafe that may be reserved for group meetings or parties.

Description: EVANSTON SAFETY TOWN is a summer day camp program for 4, 5, and 6 year olds. Established in 1977 by the Evanston/Skokie Council of PTAs, the not-for-profit program teaches safety rules in a fun-filled setting. Safety rules are reinforced with practice on the child-size Safety Town that includes buildings, cars(big wheel bikes) and bicycles from home.
Campers attend either the two-hour morning or afternoon sessions for two weeks in June and July at Kingsley School, 2300 Green Bay Road. $110 for 2 week session.

Notes: Teens entering 6th, 7th, 8th or 9th grades in the fall may volunteer as counselors. Info on how to apply is on the site.

Description: Family Promise Chicago North Shore, Inc. (FPCNS) provides services for homeless families in transition, helping them get back into permanent and sustainable housing and employment. The network consists of eleven host congregations and three support congregations. Host congregations provide a place for 3-4 families of no more than 14 people to stay for one week from the hours of 5:30 pm. to 7 am. Volunteers provide and share a family style meal, play with children, help with homework and stay overnight until families are picked up in the morning.
The Family Promise Day Center is located at the Church House of The First Congregational Church of Evanston, 1417 Hinman Avenue, near public transportation, parks, and convenient to host congregations. Families stay at the center during the day.

Sponsors annual Evanston Interfaith Thanksgiving Service at various houses of worship.
Notes: Warming Centers are located in the facilities of member houses of worship and are staffed by volunteers. The Centers open in November and continue through March.
Hospitality Center for the Homeless located at St Mark's Episcopal Church, offers social services and referrals weekdays from 7-11 am.

Description: Project SOAR is a one on one Mentoring Program that matches boys and girls ages 7-16 in need of emotional support and guidance with responsible adult role models who provide positive and stable relationships. The Mentor spends 3-4 hours per week with their mentee and there is a 1 year committment. Children are referred from schools, police department, other social agencies and the Y staff while the mentors are caring adults from the community and Northwestern University.
As mentors, adults are encouraged to be a friend and provide a stable, caring relationship with a younger person. Together they'll also participate in group activities like bowling, skiing, camping, and sporting events.

Description: SAGE (Schools are Gardening in Evanston) is an outgrowth of the Dawes School Edible Garden Project which began in 2004.
