This is a book about the German civilian experience during WWII. I've read many books about WWII and have never read anything like this one. It is one of the most innovative, interesting, and thoughtful stories I've read in years -- get ready for a very unusual narrator and an equally unusual style of writing. Both add to the story and deepen your understanding of the characters and issues. I loved this book and recommend it highly. (Heidi H.)
