Spring Words! Nursery Rhymes Game at your library

alt

April 1 - April 30, Main Children's Room, North Branch, and Chicago Avenue Main Street Branch

Bring your baby, toddler or preschooler to the library to play our Spring Words Nursery Rhyme Game in April, picking up your very own copies of rhymes as you go. Complete at least 10 of the rhymes posted and parents receive a keychain for holding all the nursery rhyme copies --  kids get a miniature notebook of their own. Take time for some special one-on-one with your little one. You may already know that singing rhymes is the single best way to prepare your child to be ready to learn to read, but this program is for having fun! One prize set per family.

An Evening with author Michael Tyler

alt

Thursday, April 16, 7:30-8:30pm, Large Community Room, Main Library

Parents and educators are invited to come for a conversation with Michael Tyler, Chicago author of the Mom's Choice Award book, The Skin You Live In. Studies have shown that children can be imprinted by racism and sexism as early as age two.  Through his book, Tyler invites us to explore the relationship each child has with his/her skin through shared  experiences common to children around the world.  Tyler recounts the personal incident that led to the book's creation and discusses the semantics of discrimination as well as the idea that social activism is a personal decision that can initiate a social transformation.

Note: Copies of Michael Tyler's book, The Skin You Live In, can be purchased online or in retail stores. Bring your copy to be signed by the author.

No registration necessary.

Special thanks to our generous partner Evanston's own Comix Revolution!
We will be giving away free comics, as long as they last, courtesy of the generosity of our own local comic store, Comix Revolution, 606 Davis Street, Evanston.  Stop in the Children's Room and then go visit and thank Comix Revolution!
