A minimum of 8 children is required for storytimes and programs to be held. Children must be residents of Evanston or attend school in District 65.  Book Babies and Time for Twos is limited to 12 children with a parent or caregiver. Time for Twos is meant to be a special time for a parent and child, so no older or younger siblings. Registration required unless otherwise noted.

Saturday, July 11, 1-2 pm, Community Meeting Room, Main Library

Akwaaba: Learning West African People, History and Culture through African Music is an interactive West-African drumming workshop that provides participants a unique way to have a multi-cultural, interactive, and fun learning experience.  Participants will be afforded the opportunity to drum, sing and dance to ancient rhythms of the Malinke people from the West African kingdom of Mali. 

Bring your own musical instruments to play!  Drums and additional percussion instruments will be provided.  All ages are welcome;  no registration necessary.


An Afternoon with Kwame Alexander

The Dajae Coleman Foundation and Evanston Public Library Friends present an afternoon with Kwame Alexander, the 2015 recipient of the Newbery Medal for The Crossover, a novel in verse for children and teens about basketball, brothers and family. Mr. Alexander will read from his work, discuss matters of the heart, and sign books. Copies of The Crossover will be available for purchase courtesy of Bookends & Beginnings. Please register. Space is limited.  


August Family NIghts!


Tuesday 8/4 6:30 pm  Family Night: Yoga with Jancy Jerome! Cat, cow, and down dog too! Come learn to greet the morning together in an easy and beautiful sun salutation. Grades K - 6 with a parent. Bring a yoga mat if you have one. Registration required.

Monday 8/10 7 pm Family Night: Lego Night. Build your dream school together -- or the last "tree house"  of summer. Grades K -5. Drop In; no registration needed.

Thursday 8/13 6:30 pm  Family Night:  Drive in Movie Night with Stuffed Animals! Build your favorite stuffed animal a cool car, then drive over together to our movie room for some short films. Preschool and up. Registration Required.

Monday 8/17 6:30 pm Family Night: Evening The Young and the Restless. Bring your infant, one or two year old to this evening version of our popular sing-a-long storytime! Drop In; no registration needed.

Tuesday 8/18 7 pm Family Night: Father Son Craft.  Join us for an evening of creativity working on a science/art project with your son. Boys must be accompanied by an adult. Registration required. Grades 2 -6.

Thursday 8/20 7 pm Family Night: Jammie Time! Come in pajamas to this stories-before-bed program. Ages 2 -9.

Tail Waggin' Tutors at Main

4 week Session

Tuesdays from 6:30-7 pm or 7-7:30 pm

Practice your reading - read to a dog! The Tail Waggin’ Tutors program provides a relaxed and “dog-friendly” atmosphere in which kids can practice and improve their reading skills. Tail Waggin' Tutors are wonderful listeners and provide a great opportunity for kids to build confidence reading as well as learn how to interact with these wonderful therapy dogs. Kids read to their dogs for 20 minutes and have 10 minutes of cuddle time.
Sign up for one 4-week session from 6:30 -7 pm or 7-7:30 pm; space is limited to 6 participants per 30 minute period.  


Please note: We request that families with multiple children share a dog and a slot.  Registration is required and starts June 15.  Please call 847-448-8610 to register.
