A minimum of 8 children is required for storytimes and programs to be held. Children must be residents of Evanston or attend school in District 65.  Book Babies and Time for Twos is limited to 12 children with a parent or caregiver. Time for Twos is meant to be a special time for a parent and child, so no older or younger siblings. Registration required unless otherwise noted.

Meet and Greet with Jon Scieszka

The Jon Scieszka event is now full.  There will be a stand-by line.  Those in the stand-by line will be let into the program starting at 4:20 pm if people registered for the event do not arrive by that time. Come meet celebrated children's author Jon Scieszka, who will be promoting his latest book, Frank Einstein and the Brainturbo!  Children wearing a Mad Scientist Costume have the chance to win a prize!  Mr. Scieszka will give a brief talk, answer questions, pose for photos, and sign books, on sale at the event by co-presenter The Book Stall.  Registration is required; the event is recommended for ages 7 and up.  Mr. Scieszka has written such great books as his memoir Knucklehead, the Time Warp Trio series, The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Stupid Tales, The True Story of the Three Little Pigs, among many others.  In addition, he started the Guys Read campaign, and served as the inaugural Ambassador for Young People's Literature.  Register online, in person, or by calling 847-448-8610.

Storytimes start the week of  Monday, September 14.

It's time to sign up for September registered storytimes! We've got a storytime for every early childhood age group -- infants, 1's, 2's, three and up. (Child should be a Evanston resident or attend an Evanston school.)

Infant Rhymetime -- under 12 months -- register staring 8/31

Book Babies - 1 year old -- register starting 8/31

Time for Two's  - 2 years old -- register starting 8/31

All By Myself - ages 3 and up -register starting 8/31 for Monday or Thursday

Family Storytime and Craft - ages 3 and up -- register starting 8/31


Tail Waggin' Tutors at Main

4 week Session

Tuesdays from 6:30-7 pm or 7-7:30 pm

Practice your reading - read to a dog! The Tail Waggin’ Tutors program provides a relaxed and “dog-friendly” atmosphere in which kids can practice and improve their reading skills. Tail Waggin' Tutors are wonderful listeners and provide a great opportunity for kids to build confidence reading as well as learn how to interact with these wonderful therapy dogs. Kids read to their dogs for 20 minutes and have 10 minutes of cuddle time.
Sign up for one 4-week session from 6:30 -7 pm or 7-7:30 pm; space is limited to 6 participants per 30 minute period.  


Please note: We request that families with multiple children share a dog and a slot.  Registration is required and starts August 31.  Please call 847-448-8610 to register.


Fall Words: Mail Box Play for Toddlers!


September 2015, Main Library, North Branch, CAMS (Chicago Ave.) Branch

Bring your toddler to play Mail Box with you at the Evanston Public Library this September! We'll have all the gear -- envelopes, "stamps," a pretend Post Office mail box, even a mail bag for your little postal worker. Children learn best through play and research shows that learning increases with parent/caregiver involvement. Come have a great time "addressing" envelopes and delivering mail. Don't wait; this play scenario is done at month's end!



中秋节故事会 Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival Storytime

Come enjoy a family celebration and story time about one of China's most popular holidays, the 2000 year old Mid-Autumn Festival! Come hear the story of Chang-e and Hou Yi, learn about this ancient moon festival and the fun ways families now celebrate in China, and make some festival crafts. Storytelling in Chinese and English. Chinese Language books for kids for sale onsite from Bookends and Beginnings.  Bring the whole family! (crafts suitable for 3 and up)
