Happy New Year From The Loft!

2011 in the Loft was a bee-busy and exciting time: We hosted author/comic artist visits from Jordan Sonnenblick, Antony John, and Jenny Frisson; bike maintenance workshops that had teens repairing tubes and adjusting brakes; a theatrical adaptation of Five Flavors of Dumb performed by our teen theater troupe; and an original teen photography art gallery showing based on the issues of non-violence and justice. In 2011 we added to Loft staff with the the hire of our newest staff member, Dan and subtracted with the sad departure of our beloved YA librarian, Christie, for other pastures. Programs included a duct tape workshop, Chainmaille jewelry-making, steampunk jewelry-making, 11 father-son book group meetings. The shelves whirled with the wind of thousands of books checked out, piles of new books and graphic novels added, and the room brightened at the sound of thousands of laughs had and thousands of ideas sprung. Phew! All this and more. And 2012 promises to be just as active, kinetic, and loaded with bounce.

Help us celebrate the new year by checking out this list we compiled of the Loft Teen Advisory Board (TAB) and Loft staff favorite books of 2011. Happy New Year! And check out our events page for January and February events, especially our first author visit from Kat Falls, author of the dystopic, wild-ride, undersea adventures, Dark Life and Rip Tide. See you in the stacks!
