Murder City

Bowden, Charles. Murder City. 2010. (364.1523 Bowde.C)

El Paso, Texas ranks in the top 5 of safest cities in America. Its sister city directly across the border, Juárez, Mexico, ranks as the most dangerous city in the world. Charles Bowden, one of the few journalists whose spent extensive periods of time in Juárez, interviews a repentant hitman, a journalist fleeing for his life and other residents who regularly witness deadly violence in broad daylight. Bowden writes “the thing whispered in the city, the thing no media on either side of the line will publish: that the army is doing the killing.” Bowden’s smart research goes beyond the blood it addresses the impact of the global economy on the future of many struggling cities like Juárez.
