The Leopard
Nesbø, Jo. The Leopard. 2012. (Mystery Nesbø.J)
Harry Hole, the brilliant but troubled detective who anchors Jo Nesbø's taut and compelling mysteries, is in Hong Kong feeding his multiple addictions, placing very bad bets on the horses, and generally wallowing in misery after the harrowing experiences of his previous case (The Snowman). His former boss wants him back to work on another serial killer case, one with especially random-seeming victims and a truly gruesome m.o. The victims were horribly tortured in bizarre ways. Harry wants to stay "holed up" (sorry, couldn't resist) and have nothing to do with his former life, but his mind starts trying to solve this case even as he hears the sketchy details from the woman detective sent to bring him back to Oslo.
He's just as addicted to tough cases as he is to various other substances. That's lucky for us because it means some serious page-turning on our parts to get to the bottom of this complex case. And, as with all the Harry Hole mysteries, the killer is not the only one Harry battles. Internal conflict in the police department and some very corrupt, power-hungry department heads would be quite pleased if Harry was out of the picture...permanently. Also on CD, large type, and eBook.
