The Audacity of Hope

Obama, Barack. The Audacity of Hope. 2006. (320.973 Obama.B)

I recently re-read this book after Barack Obama took office in January 2009. For me, the book almost seems like an outline for how Barack Obama plans to perform as a public servant. Maybe I am naive, but I truly believe he is sincere in his belief that there are no "blue" states and no "red" states, only the United States of America. This book was written before the full force of the present economic crisis took hold. It seems prophetic in calling for our collective effort as Americans to guide our country along a path of renewal. Barack Obama rightly declares that negotiating these challenging times must be accomplished for the good of all citizens, unlike a particular commentator who shall remain unnamed, who would have the President fail in his mission, even at the expense of our entire nation. Of course, no book is perfect. I would like to have seen more "hard" data to support some of the financial solutions he has promoted, but then again, it's not an economics textbook, so it's a minor complaint. (Audrey H.)
