Good news! We are now offering contact-free holds pickup for Evanston residents. Here’s how it works:
Decide what you’d like to borrow from the Library through our online catalog or in consultation with a Library staff member at 847-448-8630. You can also reach a librarian through email or IM, which you can find using this chat link.
Place your hold using our online catalog or by calling 847-448-8630. Only items in the Main Library collection are available at this time.
Wait for a confirmation that your item is ready. Email will be the primary notification method. If you do not have an email address, the confirmation will be by phone. Proceed to Step 4 after you receive your confirmation.
Make your reservation for pickup at epl.org/curbside. Pickup hours are Tuesday-Saturday 10 am-3 pm, and Wednesdays from 5 pm-8 pm, at the Main Library. Can’t schedule online? Then call us at 847-448-8630 for help. You will receive a confirmation email with instructions for pickup which will depend on if you’re in a car, on a bike, or on foot.
Coming by car? Drive into our underground garage off Orrington Avenue. Pop your trunk. We’ll load your pre-bagged books. On foot or bike? Meet us at the north/ east side of the building by our staff entrance. We’ll have a tent sent up there with tables. You can pick up your pre-bagged materials there. Our signage will help guide your way.
What about returns? The book drops at the Main Library (only) will be open starting Monday, June 29, on Monday through Thursday from 7 am to 4 pm. With more than 50,000 books out in the community, we need to stagger returns to efficiently process and quarantine such a high volume of materials. (The book drops will be closed Friday July 3, Saturday July 4, and Sunday July 5. They will reopen at 7 AM on Monday July 6th.)
Please be patient with us as we launch this new service. Evanston loves books, movies and more and we love to serve you!
