Continuing our collaboration, the Evanston In-School Music Association (EISMA) and the Evanston Public Library are bringing their second world music program to the Evanston community. Sunday afternoon, April 22 at 4:30 pm, the global fusion band Funkadesi will present a free concert at the Fleetwood-Jourdain Center, 1655 Foster, Evanston. Building harmony through musical and cultural diversity, the program blends African and Caribbean grooves with Indian music — bhangra, Bollywood, Indian folk. Funkadesi musicians merge their multiethnic backgrounds and skills to create one unifying sound and vision.
This is an opportunity to bring families and the community together to experience what K-8th graders are hearing in their schools throughout March: the Funkadesi percussion ensemble performing West African and Afro-Caribbean music.
