The Blueberry Award Winner, Honors and Changemakers!

The Blueberry Award is a brand new children’s book prize in its inaugural year. The Blueberry is given to the children’s book that best engenders a love of nature in children ages 3 – 10. There is one winner and 25 Honor Books PLUS a list of Changemaker books that help children act in response to climate change. A 2020 BBC poll found 80% of kids are concerned about the environment. This new award aims to give kids the highest quality materials to learn and to act!

Kids deserve the very best books to learn more about nature and to start some action for the planet! The Blueberry Awards, begun by Evanston Public Library in 2021, annually showcase the best in kids’ literature about the earth and its protectors.


2023 Blueberry Award Booklist!

Drumroll! Here are the 2023 Blueberry Awards winners, honors and change makers, the best nature and climate books for kids 3 – 10+! This list has been curated by librarians, collection development managers, our city’s Sustainability Manager, our school’s sustainability manager, dedicated staff from the Evanston Ecology Center, and early childhood development experts to assure parents, teacher and kids that these books are excellent and truthful, but in age-appropriate ways, designed to support delight first and group climate action second.
