Evanston Public Library installs two new book drops around town

The Evanston Public Library announced this week that two new book drops have been installed to make returning library books more convenient for patrons.

The two new book drops are “driver’s side” book drops. They are located on Prairie Avenue near Central Street and outside the Robert Crown Community Center, 1801 Main Street.

In addition, the Evanston Public Library also offers book drops at the following locations throughout Evanston:

  • Inside the Main Library, 1703 Orrington Avenue
  • In front of the Main Library, on Church Street
  • Inside the Fleetwood Jourdain Community Center, 1655 Foster Street
  • At the Robert Crown Branch Library, located inside the Robert Crown Center

In response to community feedback gathered over a series of community listening sessions held last year, the Evanston Public Library has been working to expand convenient public access to the Library and its resources throughout the community.

In addition to the new book drops, in March, EPL announced its new Library Express after-hours service, which allows patrons to drop by the Robert Crown branch during expanded morning and evening hours to use computers, check out books, or find some quiet reading and studying space.

In 2020, the Library stopped charging overdue fines on materials to remove another barrier to residents. EPL has also continued to expand its offerings of downloadable materials, including eBooks, eAudiobooks, movies and TV shows, and periodicals, as well as online programming, to reach people wherever they are.

“We have been listening and working to create a library that is more accessible to everyone in our community,” Executive Director Karen Danczak Lyons said.  “I hope that these additional book drops are a welcome convenience for our residents.”
