Winter Weather and Holiday Closures

Due to a forecasted blizzard with dangerously high winds and low temperatures, followed by the holidays, the Evanston Public Library will have several closures over the weekend.

Closures are at both the Main Library and Robert Crown Branch locations, unless otherwise noted:

  • Thursday, Dec. 22: Closing at 1 p.m.
  • Friday, Dec. 23: Closed
  • Saturday, Dec. 24: Main Library will be open 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. The Robert Crown Branch will be closed.
  • Sunday, Dec. 25: Closed
  • Monday, Dec. 26: Closed

Need to get out of the cold?

The City of Evanston has opened warming shelters at the following locations:

Robert Crown Community Center, 1801 Main St.

  • Wednesday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.
  • Saturday, 6 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Fleetwood-Jourdain Community Center, 1655 Foster St.

  • Wednesday and Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Community members who need shelter outside of these hours should call/text Evanston 311 at 847-448-4311 (open Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Hours will be extended.) or the Evanston Police Department non-emergency service desk at 847-866-5000 (open 24/7).
