The Blueberry Award Winner, Honors and Changemakers!

The Blueberry Award is a brand new children’s book prize in its inaugural year. The Blueberry is given to the children’s book that best engenders a love of nature in children ages 3 – 10. There is one winner and 25 Honor Books PLUS a list of Changemaker books that help children act in response to climate change. A 2020 BBC poll found 80% of kids are concerned about the environment. This new award aims to give kids the highest quality materials to learn and to act!

The award commemorates the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and honors his wife, Mrs. Coretta Scott King, for her courage and determination to continue the work for peace and world brotherhood.

Pura Belpré Author Award Winners and Honor Titles Since 2001

This award is named after Pura Belpré, the first Latina librarian at the New York Public Library. The Pura Belpré Award, established in 1996, is presented annually to a Latino/Latina writer and illustrator whose work best portrays, affirms, and celebrates the Latino cultural experience in an outstanding work of literature for children and youth. It is co-sponsored by the Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) and the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA), divisions of the American Library Association (ALA), and REFORMA, the National Association to Promote Library and Information Services to Latinos and the Spanish-Speaking, an ALA affiliate.
