Favorite Find of the Week: Mother Earth News

February 2, 2016

I don’t ask for much out of life. The occasional Grande Iced Chai Latte from Starbucks. A small child who doesn’t wake me up before 6 a.m.  Shoes with zero holes in them. Simple stuff.  But there is one thing I do demand of my job and it is this: Consistently amusing discoveries.  I don’t know if you’ve ever taken a stroll through the stacks of Evanston Public Library, but we have a massive collection.  Far larger than any other Chicago suburban library system (and our readers come out in greater numbers as well, but keep that under your hat).  With all these books, magazines, CDs, DVDs, etc. it’ll little wonder that occasionally I’ll locate something amusing.  Today’s find?  Oh, it’s a beauty.  But I think that in this particular case a picture is worth a thousand words.

Mother Earth

Or, but another way, a picture with words like “More From the Book of Tofu” is worth a thousand words.  As you can see, this is the January/February 1977 edition of The Mother Earth News.  The crazy thing is how timely some of these articles are.  Hydroponics?  Solar Homes?  Maybe not the Geraldo one though . . .

Yes, you may not know it but Evanston Public Library has a crazy huge collection of periodicals for your research on hand and on-site.  Want to know more about them?  Check in with your friendly Reference Librarian (847-448-8630) today.
