Local Art @ EPL: Jasmin & Alyssa Hislop

November 6, 2018

We are thrilled to welcome the mother/daughter artist team of Jasmin & Alyssa Hislop as the next to be featured in our ongoing exhibition series Local Art @ EPL. Their exhibit A Nowherian Signature is currently on display on the 3rd floor of EPL’s Main Library where you can catch it through the end of November. The duo describe their style: “[c]ontrary to mainstream artistic expression, we have no fixed abode. We are constantly experimenting and evolving using a variety of tactile and digital media.  In adopting this approach, we risk saturating our work with color, line, texture and other design elements.  The ensuing intensity & variety of our pieces can be overwhelming and invigorating, generating a signature unique to its character.  The term “nowherian”  comes from the term “nowhere.” It describes a person with no identifying home of his or her own.  The slang is commonly used in the local vernacular of Trinidad & Tobago, the native country of the Hislop Family.”
