Woody Guthrie Centennial

July 12, 2012

To commemorate the centennial of folk singer Woody Guthrie’s birth, the Smithsonian Institution is releasing a three- CD boxed set of his work. “Woody at 100” includes performances from radio broadcasts, live shows, and six songs that have never been heard on record. Beginning with his most famous song “This Land is Your Land”, the set shows the artist’s range from country music and the blues to Appalachian ballad and whimsical children’s song. Much of the collection was bequeathed to the Smithsonian 25 years ago by the estate of Moe Asch, founder of Folkways Records. You can read the entire NYT article here. EPL will be purchasing this set for its audio collection soon.
