We are not accepting returned materials at any of our library locations or book drops. We have automatically renewed all materials through July 1. Please refer back to this page for the latest updates and when the library will start accepting item returns. Materials will be automatically renewed until August 1 if the book drop is not reopened by June 30, 2020.
Where do I return library materials?
At the Main Library, 1703 Orrington Avenue: There are drive-up/walk-up drop boxes on Church Street at the front of the library. There are also drop boxes at the information desk in the lobby.
At the North Branch, 2026 Central Street: A drop box is located on the west wall of the entryway (on your right as you face the outer door).
At Chicago Avenue/Main Street Branch (CAMS), 900 Chicago Avenue: A drop box is located on the north wall of the building.
Robert Crown book drop, located outside the main entrance to Robert Crown, 1701 Main St.
Fleetwood-Jourdain book drop, located in the front entry to Fleetwood-Jourdain,1655 Foster St
At any library in Cooperative Computer Services (CCS) consortium: The Evanston Public Library is a member and all the libraries in the consortium share a catalog. When you return materials to one of these libraries, it will be reflected on your account as soon as that library processes their drop boxes. Chicago and Skokie Public Libraries are NOT part of the CCS consortium.
At any other public library in Illinois: The state has a van delivery system that routes materials between the ten Illinois library systems. Be aware that the further away from Evanston you return the materials, the longer it will take for us to receive them. Materials are not cleared from your account until received at EPL, so you may incur late fines while they are in transit.
By mail: Send them to Evanston Public Library, 1703 Orrington Ave., Evanston, IL 60201 ATTN: Circulation
Please do not return EPL materials to libraries in other states.
