Northwestern University's student-run radio station. The station plays a wide range of jazz, rock, underground dance, hip-hop, and world music, in addition to offering public affairs programming and Wildcat sports.
WNUR is a non-commercial, listener-supported radio station broadcasting at a frequency of 89.3 MHz FM and a power of 7200 watts. The WNUR studios are located in Louis Hall, on the campus of Northwestern University in Evanston, IL, and the station produces a signal that can be heard by nearly 3 million potential listeners throughout Chicagoland. WNUR also streams on the Web to listeners around the world. WNUR is licensed to Northwestern University and its operations are subject to the authority and oversight of Northwestern University’s Board of Trustees and its Officers.
Currently broadcasting general city information in looped recorded messages. The goal is to broadcast emergency information. Transmitting on AM 1650. Tune in a couple times a week for timely reminders and information about events, services, public hearings and more.
Now community members who don’t have access to cable television or the Internet can get current City information with the use of their AM radios
Concerned about the limited ability to notify community members in emergency situations, City officials purchased this radio station with the assistance of funds allocated by the 911 - Emergency Telephone System Board (ETSB).
There are no disc jockeys or radio personalities for AM 1650. The station is a travelers’ information station that plays looped recorded messages.
As the programming for the station continues to progress, it will be used to broadcast emergency information. Currently, the City’s travelers’ station broadcasts general city information.
Take a minute to add AM 1650 to the station presets on your radios and create a habit to tune in a couple times a week for timely reminders and information about events, services, public hearings and more.
