Prevention: Short-term financial assistance for individuals and families at-risk of losing their home.

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) is a vibrant member-driven program of Northwestern University’s School of Professional Studies serving over 1500 adults on the Evanston and Chicago campuses. Composed of seasoned learners from all walks of life, OLLI members pursue learning for pure pleasure: there are no tests and no grades. Members of our cooperative learning community generate an exciting and intellectually challenging curriculum of more than 100 study groups per semester. These study groups are small, two-hour, seminar-style discussions that occur weekly in the daytime. Study groups are proposed, designed, and facilitated by fellow members and cover a wide range of topics including civic engagement, contemporary issues, creative arts, history and government, literature, science and technology, and social sciences.

The Warren W. “Billy” Cherry Scholarship fund provides financial assistance for graduating seniors, graduates of Evanston Township High School, or ETHS students with a G.E.D. who are pursuing associates, bachelors, or graduate degree in education or youth work. They must be enrolled as a full-time (12 or more credit hrs. per term) or part-time (6 or more credit hrs. per term) student and demonstrate a need for financial assistance.
Some of selection criteria are
• Success in overcoming poor academic achievement, lack of focus, or other personal challenges.
• Interest in working with young people.

Chicagoland Prison Outreach exists to ministers to those who have been incarcerated, and their families by providing chaplaincy services, Vocational training, food assistance, compassionate products such as school supplies, Thanksgiving baskets, and Christmas gifts for the children. The goal of Chicagoland Prison Outreach is to build relationships with those that have been incarcerated to help restore them to society, and assist their families during the transition. We also provide trauma coaching/counseling to support both those that are incarcerated, and their families. This process will help to reduce recidivism.
